Dry Ice - non-toxic, inert, non-flammable, colourless, tasteless, odourless and residue free. It produces a bacteriostatic and fungistatic effect and generates no waste.
Dry Ice is carbon dioxide (CO2) in its solid state. The product has a temperature of
-78.5°C (-109.3°F), whereas traditional water ice is only 0°C.
When dry ice exchanges its latent cold energy to its surroundings, it changes from solid CO2 directly back to a gas without going through the liquid phase. This transformation process is known as sublimation. Every kilo of dry ice generates 0.54m3 of carbon dioxide gas as it sublimates from its solid state.
Dry Ice Industrial Applications
The unique properties of dry ice make it an attractive resource in various industrial sectors. Its cooling effect makes it ideal for any applications requiring effective refrigeration, including chilling and freezing of food within catering trolleys such as airline catering. The sublimation effect can be used to create spectacular low-fog displays in live performances or to present of all kinds of culinary creations.
Its antibacterial properties make it the ideal companion for food transportation of chilled or frozen food. It also offers environmental solutions in the removal of surface contaminants through dry ice blast cleaning.
Dry Ice also has several industrial uses, including emergency cooling in mechanical breakdowns, cold grinding, shrink fitting of engineering parts and localised freezing of pipes.
